Try Ripping a Phonebook in Half
By Tim Archbold

Most everyone knows about or has seen demonstrated the tearing in half of phone books. It is a pretty tough thing to do and requires strong forearms and grip. But there is a technique to use that will make it easier to do. If you are new to grip strength training or you know you are not yet ready for a phone book you can start with something smaller. Tearing magazines, small paper books etc. will help build some strength and give you chance to practice technique.

To start tearing a phone book or any other book you may try, grasp the book at the top with your hands far enough apart that your little fingers is out near the edge. Place your thumbs onto the book at the center and push down and grip the book with the last two fingers of your hands. With your thumbs push the book so it forms a U shape. Now grip the book with all of your fingers really tight and bend downward on the book.

As you bend the book this way you can see how the pages thin out on top. Bend down really hard and those pages should rip apart, as they do continue bending, shifting your grip if needed. As more pages tear you can start to pull up with one hand and down with the other to rip on through, a strong grip is needed here.

You may need to practice on something easy at first to get the method down but you will get. It. Once you start to be able to rip books it feels pretty good.

How to Bend Nails with your Bare hands

Bending stuff like nails and steel bars or tearing and ripping things like phone books and decks of cards are an impressive way to show of your forearm and hand strength. Depending on how strong you are you can always find something to challenge you, as you get stronger move up to more difficult tests of strength.

Bend Nails To Show Off Your Strength

Bending nails using your hands is a pretty good way to show off your strength. It’s one of those things that most people just can’t do. There are even some fairly strong guys out there that cannot bend nails either because their grip strength is not really that strong or they do not know what the correct technique is. The technique of nail bending is what we are discussing in this article.

You have got the grip and forearm strength and you want to measure your strength by bending a nail. You can use a few different grips you can try, one may be more comfortable or easier to use than the others for you. These grips are usually called the double overhand, double underhand and the reverse. Using a piece of leather or some kind of heavy fabric that you can wrap around the ends of the nails will help protect your hands. There is the possibility of damage to your hands so start bending with easier stuff at first to get used to it.

For the actual bend technique you will use your whole body not just your arms. Place the pointed end of the nail in the hand that will not do the actual bending. Hold the other end of the nail with the other hand in close so the two hands are close together. Put your elbows into your sides to make it a little easier to do, and squeeze your hands really hard.

You next just kind of tense up your back and shoulder muscles to assist your arms in the bend. Lock your wrists so that your forearms are like one unit. Then bend the nail with your bending hand putting everything your have into it. If it won'tt bend just back down to something that is easier and practice about once a week.

This technique is not the only way to do it. Do a little research and you will find a lot of info to help you along. You must be careful about damaging your hands with the nails and you will find that as you do more your hands will get tougher.
